PPG TESLIN® synthetic paper is available in a range of product grades to address specific application requirements.
The following chart helps users identify the best Teslin substrate grade for specific applications and printing processes. For added assurance, please contact us to find out which grade is recommended for your application and print technology. PPG gives no guarantees and strongly advises that pre-test qualification of material, processes and equipment be conducted, along with testing to ensure suitability.
Please consult the Teslin Substrate Print Technology chart and the Teslin Substrate Digital Printing Compatibility Matrix for specific machine recommendations.
Product Grade | Description | Available Thickness | Compatible Print Technologies | Typical Applications | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
mil | micron | ||||
Teslin SP Substrate | SP is the standard product. | 6 7 8 10 12 14 18 |

|
Teslin TS substrate | Thermally stabilized (TS) grades are more resistant to shrinkage when exposed to elevated temperatures. They are best for applications where fixed graphics are printed before digital- or laser-printing of variable data. | 6 7 8 10 12 14 |
145 179 203 254 305 356 |

|
Teslin Digital substrate | Developed specifically for many Indigo® and Xeikon® digital print models, Teslin Digital substrate does not require a coating to run, unlike many other substrates. It also provides a stiffer, crisper feel for more difficult print engine feeders. | 10 | 254 |

|
Teslin IJWP substrate | Teslin Ink Jet, Waterproof (IJWP) substrate was developed to support dye-based ink jet applications by allowing them to “hold out” and to make the print waterproof. Coated on both sides, the substrate is treated to optimize ink jet printability, provide photo-realistic image quality, offer extremely quick dry times, and provide exceptional lamination peel strength. | 6 7 8 10 12 14 |
145 178 203 254 305 356 |
|
|
Teslin HD substrate | Teslin HD (Higher-Density) substrate is suited for applications requiring greater stiffness and tear-resistance than what is provided by Teslin SP substrate. Testing also has shown that it can survive high temperatures for extended time periods, making it suitable for difficult in-mold applications such as vulcanization in-mold labeling. | 7 14 18 |

Teslin Security-Grade substrate |
Building on Teslin substrate’s inherent tamper-resistant/tamper-evident performance, Teslin Security-Grade substrate is manufactured with security features embedded within the material. Sold through a secure supply chain, it can also be made program-specific for an authenticable supply chain from manufacturing to issuance.

Teslin Food-Grade substrate |
When used as intended, Teslin Food-Grade substrate is fully compliant for single- and repeated-use applications under U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and all applicable U.S. food-additive regulations as a food contact material. The substrate also is fully compliant with all type of food and under all conditions of use for which it is technologically suitable. It is not limited by food type, amount of material used or operating conditions.

Teslin Bio substrate | Independently tested to ASTM standard D5511, substantially all of the material breaks down into microbe-consumable particles in anerobic conditions. Studies show 7.8% degradation over 74 days with continued break down expected, but it isn’t known if the rate of degradation for the portion of Teslin Bio substrate that will degrade naturally will remain constant over time.
