Flexography—or “flexo”—is a printing process that utilizes flexible relief plates. During this process, TESLIN® substrate should be handled like a thin film, and tensions ranging from 0.5-1.0 lb/in (0.9-1.8 N/cm) of width should be maintained. A coarse line (150-175) anilox roll (high well volume) is recommended for sufficient ink densities. Ovens and dryers should be operated at minimal temperatures and high air flow rates. Due to the product’s ability to absorb water, both solvent-based and water-based flexography inks work well.
UV flexography
When printing with UV flexographic inks in which inks are cured by UV rays, Teslin substrate might require pre-treatment with a primer to partially seal the material’s porosity, which can and thus prevent the inks from sinking into the material and enable better ink cure.
Below is a limited list of ink suppliers who have tested their inks and provided recommendations for printing on Teslin substrate. Pre-testing by the customer is always strongly recommended to verify suitability for application requirements. Other ink suppliers may also be able to supply correctly formulated inks to successfully print on Teslin substrate.
